At this time, there are no federal FAA rules that state flying a drone in or near a school zone would be prohibited.

That said, we’d consider a school to be a ‘sensitive’ area in the same category as a hospital, penitentiary systems, power plants, or other critical infrastructure.

As a best practice, if you’re going to be flying over or near a school, you might want to reach out to introduce yourself, and if you’re standing on school property while operating the drone, you would want to get permission to be on that property.
